Ash Uman is a self-taught artist and started in 1990 as a full time artist. His paintings tend towards the abstract, often with exuberant use of colour. One of his paintings was selected for the Millennium Art Collection (theme "2000 Resources to Love the Earth"). This painting has been exhibited in The Hague for quite some time.
Uman is originally from Uganda and has consciously experienced the period led by Idi Amin. This has left traces in his work.
Ash lives and works in Nairobi, Kenya, and had his first solo exhibition in 1989 in Nairobi, entitled 'Strokes for Thought'. Ash experiments a lot, which he likes a lot, and his paintings have thus changed a lot over the years. The later works are more abstract.
