Banana Hill Art Gallery is delighted to present “Guardians of Memory”, a solo exhibition by Nairobi-based multimedia artist Njogu Kuria.
Kuria is renowned for transforming discarded materials into striking works that blur the line between myth, memory, and urban futurism. His practice moves fluidly between painting, sculpture, installation, and performance, creating a living archive that speaks to cultural resilience and environmental consciousness.
In this exhibition, Kuria’s signature upcycled sculptures and multimedia works come together as guardians—keepers of memory and spirit. Made from discarded car, motorcycle, and bicycle tires, his sculptural totems embody both Peace and Wrath, dual forces that mirror the depth and complexity of human essence. His scrap-metal creations, at once beast and machine, stand as sentinels from imagined worlds.
The exhibition also features his celebrated vinyl record portraits—textural collages that preserve the pulse of sound, paying homage to musical icons and cultural histories. Through broken records, rubber, and steel, Kuria reimagines waste as something sacred, powerful, and alive.
“Guardians of Memory” is a meditation on transformation, identity, and the spirit of endurance. These works remind us that what is discarded can return as something new—mythic, resilient, and deeply human.
